Goodhew dog attached wombat rescued from centre of Taralga 16th sept 25
Goodhew was rescued Wednesday from the centre of the little town of Taralga.
He could not stay there, he would have been run over or shot. He is named after the lane he was in.
He has gotten pretty bad dog attack injuries some healing some needing treatment due to infection which is in progress and start of mange.
Warwick and Jake repaired our disused kangaroo "palace " shed enclosure do he could eat the grass and snuggle in a dog kennel full of hay in a darked shed. Stress is a big killer when you bring injured adult wildlife into care we had no choice. We have treated over the 3 days and hes quite active now busting to get out Today Warwick and Dave spent the whole day on our main mac enclosure with wombat burrow, trees and, bracken amto hide in and lots of grass A big jop patching holes under fences ( yes wombats) and replacing large logs that we hung the gates from its 1.8 m fence. Its a good 900 sq meters so he should feel more relaxed while he recovers. we will soft release him here at rocklily wombats. Thankyou to those who help with virtual gifts vet fees it also covers medication. Feeling better thursday, and checking the perimeter to find a way back out.
Friday night and we opened the gate into the larger enclosure with a burrow and heaps more grass. He did not venture into the enclosure, he seemed content and very relaxed he lay in the warming sun after his treatment , he ate some dirt and snoozed. Yes wombats eat dirt, we always provide a bowl of dirt for all wombats in little care and at 11 pm he retired to his snug hay filled dog kennel for the night. A good choice as it was 4 degrees and a howling wind then we got heavy rain squall’s for the rest of the night, resulting in 25mm. He is pretty rough looking as he’s so beaten up and with the beginnings of mange. We hope he can relax for a month of so, get alot better so you can see a shiny coat and beautiful wombat face ready to soft release and go out into a better wild place than the town centre and unwanted in various backyards.
