2015 & 2022 Winnie wallaroo & her Joey The life of a wallaroo in the wild

2022; Wild Winnie Wallaroo has passed away. She was 10 and had lived many more than her 9 lives. She had had 5 joeys with Faith still here with her, wo died days after Winnie although quite big enough to cope without her. Of the 5 joeys 2 were killed by wild dogs in 2020 I chased the dogs chasing them with my gun but they were too quick. We think its stunner whom is the father of the last 2 males before Faith
Winnie came in 2014, released with other wallaroos Annie Stunner and Cracker, in 2015 we know one of those boys survived the fires. Winnie survived many things, from blood poisoning, stick in her jaw, being chased by wild dongs, a lump of wood in her jaw, the bushfire then the floods where 1/3 to 1/2 of all macropod left from fires died. She got influezer twice last year, and had no joey, she seemed to age and im sure a bit of myopathy was involved. I'm pretty heartbroken you cannot but help loving them, living wild and free back for the odd visit. Although she was not always around she came back to allow her joeys to come out of the pouch here, if injured or stressed or on particularly cold winters. watching her get cranky having to hop on cold snow, barking at it as loud as she could, wallarroo's have so much character. We saw here on the edges of the kangaroo mob with her joey. She has been sleeping on the deck, out of the heat and weather for a little while then off in the day. Vail Winnie its silly I know, she was a favourite with her stubborn wallaroo personality. Its the circle of life
