2015 - 2017 wombat Sarah
Sarah came in 2015, was released in 2017, and is now 12-13 years old. She is famous for pulling her nail off with excessive digging — bandaging a wombat's front paw is a losing battle. She was buddied with June and Tankie. We're assuming she's probably one of the girls who has returned over the years since the 2019/20 fires, often with a joey in her pouch, and as the joey grows is seen cruising around the many burrows and starter burrows here. She is huge, and clearly thriving!
. Little Sarah broke her nail off leaving the raw flesh, so we tried to bandage it for protection and pain relief as she was a real digger. This is not uncommon and eventually the nail grows back. June loved her bottle and Tankie was a little bulldozer, but we admit we’re not sure who’s who as these two all looked very similar. It was relaxing to lie in the enclosed garden while they played, ate grass and had their bottles, hidden from the beady eyes of the local wedge-tailed eagles
2015 - 2017 Wombat Jasper A call from the wildlife group: “Could you take a 5kg wombat rescued by NPWS”. Poor Jasper had been in a small shed walking on a concrete floor covered with poo and wee. The condition of his feet was deteriorating, he was underweight, very traumatised and extremely difficult to feed. After boxes of bandaids for our fingers and little sleep, he was finally taking the bottle for much needed nutrition. Eventually we buddied him with a couple of other wombats his size and became part of our ‘great escape’. He took advantage of support feeding as he came and went
2015 - 2017 Wombat June so loved her bottle. It is special formula marsupial mik, as native animals can go blind if fed cows milk. When in care, June held her own buddied with 3 boys. She was released in 2016 here at Rocklily and we have caught images of her from time to time as, like all wombats, she moves around using multiple burrows.
2026June came in early 2015 and released late 2016 she was part of the great escape of 8 at around 20kg She didnt return straight away but we think we see her on camera from time to time. She loved her bottle which is special formula marsupial mik, as native animals can go blind if fed cows milk. When in care, June held her own buddied with 3 boys then as they dug and joined the others, mixed in well she moves around using multiple burrows and the feed station when its cold, theres a couple we wonder about Sarah and Jasper who had fizzy fur like Bushy are around very occasionally
