Jess and Popette 2016 to self release 2018

Jess arrived 2.2.2016 and Popette arrived  5.12.2016

We were both around 2kg when they arrived, just getting fur, destined for ‘self-release’ in late 2018. They had became part of a larger group of 5 similar-sized wombats in 'the great escape’. The first 5 tunnelled under a flight of brick stairs, then along under our hospital shed, connecting with the burrow of the next shed, home to 3 wombats the same size. One night all 8 joined forces, quietly digging under the mesh skirting and out to freedom, all around 20kg by then. Interestingly, the boys returned quite quickly, but the 3 girls were seen on and off, managing quite well in the wild.
