Squidgie, Dora and Ernie dec 19 2014

Both raised by Phill and Lesley and just supported soft release by Rocklilywombats 

Squidgie, Dora and Ernie are the latest group of wombats raised together now in residence in the release pen, feed daily while they either dig out or after about 10 days the gate is opened. They have the deep burrow in the release pen to retreat to either way. We have as usual camera's inside and outside the pen. We see sunny (miss July from the 2015 wombat calendar) occasionally on camera so she's obviously comfortable in the area. The release pen will be moved now as even though our monitoring of the area is not showing an over population we want to spread things around. The wombats have many hundreds of square miles of Bush to make their homes in and were about 2km as the crow fly's from the pen, so can keep a good eye on whats happening

We opened the gates on the release pen last night. Squigie watched, then came out and wondered around, wandered after Waz who was going down hill about 200m to a large unused burrow to put a camera and some roo nut's so we could see if a handraised wombat appeared (would eat nut's wild ones don,t ) yes we saw one visitor last night, they spent an hour in the burrow. It was very emotional to see her first exploration's. She eventually returned for a feed. We have 4 carmera's in the area and on the pen, a big thank's to Roseville book club for their help
