Meet Chili, Pinki, and Bushy—three incredibly special wombats with deeply intertwined histories.
Chili and Pinki first arrived at just 2kg, right as their fur was coming in. They quickly joined a gentle "rumble" of buddies, famous for sleeping in contented piles after bottle feeds and playing without a single scratch. In 2018, Pinki was officially released at Dave’s soft-release pen, while Chili famously orchestrated her own "self-release" that very same year—we like to think she is one of the proud mums we now spot on our wildlife cameras.
Bushy, who was raised alongside them, was a crazy little 5kg fellow who used to jump on top of the others at feeding time, sending milk everywhere. He was soft-released alongside his buddies in 2018 and still sports his trademark "bushy" hair. Now 10 years old,
Bushy is the ultimate survivor; he beat the 2019/20 bushfires by sheltering under Warwick’s shed. While he now lives a fully independent wild life, he still occasionally sneaks back under the shed when the winter weather gets too rough.
